JPG BMP DIFFERENCES


What is JPG:
Joint Photographic Express Group.
Supports up to 16 million colors.
Used in number of image formats.
Much information is lost from original file.

A photo of a european wild cat with the compression rate decreasing, and hence quality increasing, from left to right.
Advantages:
Compatible in most operating system like Linux and Mac.
Widely accepted image format.

Disadvantages:
Discard lot of data.
Cannot be animated.
Files does not support transparency.

What is BMP:
Bit-Map Image.
Also called Bit Array, Raster or paint images.
In BMP each and every pixel has its own specific color.
Supports limited number of colors.
Used as raster graphic image formats for saving image files.

              
Advantages:
Works well with os.
Uses windows as wall paper.

Disadvantages:
Files are uncompressed.
Huge image files so not web friendly.

DIFFERENCES BETWEEN JPG AND BMP:
