PIXEL

Pixel:
Smallest portion of an image or display.
Basic logical unit in digital graphics.

Invention:
In 1950's.

Derived from:
Picture Element (PEL).

Measured in:
PPI (Pixel Per Inch).

Pixel made of:
Triads which determine the native resolution.

Triad:
Group of three phosphor dots colored Red, Green, Blue.

Pixel combines to form:
Complete image.
Video.
Text on computer displays.

Functional diagram of pixel:

Purpose:
Sensor elements of digital cameras or number of display elements in image.

What is a pixel used for:
Stores color information of image like Red, Green, Blue (RGB) or Cyan, Magenta, Yellow, Black (CMYK).

How information is stored:
As bits.

Meaning of pixel in camera:
Pixel, pel, dots is physical point in image.
Intensity of each pixel is variable.

Mega pixel:
One million pixels.
Resolution of cameras is measured in megapixels.

Better to have more megapixels or not:
Larger pixels more light can collect.
More light it catch its the better image.

Do pixels need in our phone:
Yes, even a tiny picture can pack lot of good quality information to improve photo quality but not pixels.

How do pixels work in digital camera:
Made up of tiny photosites.
Photosites are called pixel.
Contraction of picture element.
Million of pixels in camera.

Photosite:
Million of tiny cavities to record an image.

Examples in daily life:
Cameras to take selfies electric signal hits CCD breaks in to million pixels color of each pixel stores it as a number.
Used in older computers.

Video games.

Applications:
Computers.
Camera sensors.
Photo browsers.
Mobile phones.
